I just mean, there have been many chauvinist, capitalist pigs in the world over the years, and while some of that character's personality traits could be referencing Trump, it's broad enough of a character type that that's not a sure thing. That said, if you want more nuanced takes on Trump in film and TV, the first thing that's going to have to happen is he'll have to behave in a more nuanced, thoughtful manner. Right now he mostly comes off as a cartoonish blowhard with little in the way of self-awareness: Mr. Garrison's surrogate Trump on South Park is more nuanced.
Anyways, back to Supergirl, if the series is darker in terms of general conflict (villans, tone), fine. But I hope they don't have the lead character be all cranky and judgmental for half of the season. Her spending so much time berating Monel last season got pretty tiresome after a while.

I'm curious how much of a role Mon-El will play this season, actually. Chris Wood is still a cast regular, but the premiere went through a whole lot of trouble showing Kara get past her relationship with him. If they bring him back too quickly, his dramatic exit may just feel anticlimactic.
Then again, it looks like the series will need a power couple again, since Floriana Lima (Maggie) has announced she's leaving the show.

What was up with that "building a wall" reference? Lynda Carter is President. Is Lynda Carter building a wall?
...Is Wonder Woman a racist???
Anyway, solid episode this week. And good to see that Carl Lumbly is still a part of the Martian Manhunter family.

So, was tonight's ep the best Supergirl episode ever?
The story was well-written and well-paced, the emotional material felt genuine, and the little in-jokes (a former Lois Lane as Noel Neill!) were a lot of fun. And the actresses who played young Kara and Alex not only looked the part, but delivered solid performances that felt perfectly in tune with Benoist and Leigh.
Obviously, this is not the kind of story the show can pull off every week. But this was a great change of pace from the usual formula.

Well, that's good to hear, as I wasn't particularly looking forward to a kiddie flashback episode. Will check it out tonight.

You certainly have a predilection towards high-school-set stories, Jeremy. I thought the actress playing the younger Alex was a good approximation, the one playing Kara was alright, and the story was sensitively-told, but it was a pretty visually-unimaginative hour, and I don't feel the story was unique enough to set it apart. Mid-level Supergirl, for me. I still think Falling is the show's best-ever episode.

To me, it felt like a Smallville episode, except in a good way.
(Then again, "Falling" is kind of the same thing, since it takes a page from Smallville's Red Kryptonite episodes. And it's much better. It's almost like Supergirl is a better show!)

So, is everything that Dominic Purcell's character says in Legends of Tomorrow as lame as the material he's getting in these crossover episodes? Because holy hell, it's one idiotic, completely-unfunny line after another. Victor Garber spends 90% of his time spewing exposition, too.

Still haven't watched Legends, nor have I seen much of the new crossover, but I remember disliking Purcell and Miller a lot back when I was regularly watching The Flash. That one "dramatic" scene where Captain Cold confronts Flash in the climax of "Rogue Time" is one of the most unintentionally funny things I've ever seen on television.
(By the way, "Rogue Time" is the worst episode of the Arrowverse I've ever seen. Just thinking about it is annoying me all over again.)

You're talking about Wentworth Miller, right? Yeah, he's quite the ham, but he doesn't really bother me.
On the other hand, the ridiculously-overwrought scene (in the fourth part of the crossover) between Garber and the black actor whose character shares powers with him was one of the most unintentionally hilarious things I've ever seen. Just appalling. Heh.

Way too much bawling. Characters holding back tears is far, far more effective than what they offered there. I thought it was absolutely horrible. One of the worst TV scenes I've ever seen.

Supergirl was renewed! As were all the other Arrowverse shows. Plus Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
And yes, Supernatural was renewed for Season Fourteen. Because of course it was.

Well, it's on The CW Network, so unless the ratings were absolutely dreadful, it was gonna get renewed. I've completely lost track with that show: it came back after the Christmas holidays for a few weeks, but seems like it hasn't aired any new episodes in ages.
