I want to catch up as I've heard some stuff about being good but paradoxically my investment in a show ends up being inversely proportional to my inclination to inadvertently look up spoilers, so all I know is that big shit has gone down the past two eps and it's for me to reckon with as I have the time.
S5Ep6 "Manacled Slim Wrists"
"Krystal is a YouTube make-up artist, lordy bless"
"When they were talking about the messages from supporters who don't speak English, I was surprised they left out the bits about incessant marriage proposals and suggestive remarks 😐"
"Oh my god, poison big cosmetics"
"So, Dyad has joint custody and it's about as cheery as I remember it from when I was a kid (slide whistle)"
""I rose from marsh mud..." wait a second Mudd is from Seattle? On the one hand, whiff on the reference I was thinking of but maybe she was named after grunge also-rans Mudhoney? A man can dream."
""We're going to Geneva to loaf around by a lake while a volcano blows up thousands of miles away and maybe we'll write some horror classics wait that's the Romantic era not the Victorian era abort abort""
"I would quote everything Krystal says because it's solid gold"
"Okay the response by lab tech hanger-on to "Nobody ghosts Krystal" had me dry chortle Muttley laughing"
"They need Sarah maybe and Kira definitely and Kira's dad well he can take a long walk off a short pier"
"Cool that Westmoreland is sexist and probably not actually British. That's probably pandering, just how in sundry anime the American government is behind a conspiracy to x and the Japanese are the noble freedom fighters who have been duped and/or are playing along for the inevitable betrayal"
"Sue fired shots at the patriarchy and now here's Virginia "what a twist" /M. Knight Shyamalan"
"On Demand sure as guns wants me to watch a series where Jessica Biel murders someone and the president from Independence Day interrogates her about the murder what she did"
""Why would Neolution be expanding into cosmetics" because it's an innocuous way of getting hormones and vitamins and chemicals into people through skin absorption you dumb bunny"
"Oh hey Sarah's gone back to the half cornrows thing"
"I love Krystal too, Kira"
"Poor Ira, neck deep in weird shit and still wants to pass an older lady a handwritten note reading "do you like me?" with two check boxes"
"Poor Ira, glitching out while Krystal and Allison are asymptomatic last I remember"
"Coady is smoking you know how much I have agonized in waiting for this?"
"Ira and Coady. Huh"
"So I'm just going to point out that Krystal's "real" hair and Sarah's wig almost perfectly match"
"Still love Krystal"
"That cosmetics dude is really just some rando they stuffed in a suit. Doesn't really look the part"
""You're like, what, normcore?" "The normest." Oh my goodness"
""He didn't even like my Vlog""
"Sue ain't give a shit about anything but the science"
"Krystal has gone rouge I mean rogue oh my god ball kicking and cosmetic threats"
""Oh no my beard" god what a payoff"
"Revival is so transparently a cult it's aggravating"
"Near as I can figure, Mudd and Sue have conspired to replace P.T.'s blood with piss. The opposite of taking the piss out of him but okay"
"Cool of Ira to get all of his glitching out of the way in a single episode"
"The Ganados have turned on Cos (snore)"
"(sigh) Mudd no"
"Sue and Ira. I feel like the typical arc within episodes this season is from cool shit to melodrama"
On the one hand, the two episodes that follow this one have been thoroughly hyped to me and I think that we're about due to have things crash down in the name of plot and drama although not necessarily logic. On the other, the "how did we get here" aspect of things remains tenuous and compartmentalized, so for whatever else happens, my attitude tends to mostly reside in the "Get 'em, Tat" territory without much investment in the conspiracy qua conspiracy, although the picture of "P.T." in the 60s has me crossfiring with Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords playing the fellow on the astral plane in Legion. More points to Jemaine so far, although I am somewhat glad that Coady returned to relevance whereas the stance on S2 and S4 seems to remain in the space of "we don't talk about it." Odd seasons relate to odd seasons, evens to evens. Maybe.
I wonder what Helena is up to. This particular season appears to be more overtly in the camp of "Sarah plus other clone(s)" whereas the previous ones tried to have everyone with a little bit of screentime. I'm not complaining, but it seems structurally to be an admission that the plot lines are poorly integrated. Heck, I spent part of the evening earlier considering whether Allison or Krystal was more integral to the whole, given that it's fairly obvious who is the better team player in spite of her impulsiveness.
