Dug the Scott Pilgrim show. It's just someone messing with the timeline, and creating an alternate reality, so the show can reference the core source material without being betrothed to it, and telling a fresh metatextual story in the process. I'm not sure about the "overcorrection" you refer to, Jeremy, unless it's related to the "villain" being similar to the plot of Lightyear , in which case I'd say it's done so tongue-in-cheek that it can't be taken all that seriously (especially given who's voicing said character). Care to elaborate on it (with spoiler tags)?

Sure, spoilers after the jump. Jump. The villain reveal is definitely tongue-in-cheek to some extent, but it also feels like the show is trying to distance itself from all the toxic connotations that gamer/fanboy culture has undertaken in the past decade, in part by sidelining Scott for most of the show* and focusing on Ramona, who the comics and film treat more like a prize than a character. The reveal that Old Scott is in fact the villain, and something of a cartoonish exaggeration of an incel, adds to this effect, bringing up some concepts that cast a pall over the original story. (Not the first time a video-game-inspired work has done this, incidentally - the godawful sequel to the Ready Player One book goes out of its way to insist that its main character is pro-LGBT, in a scene that makes him look like a creepy stalker. But that's a whole other discussion.)
In any case, I liked the show quite a bit; just felt they were gilding the lily by the end.
*Incidentally, I believe this marks the second bait-and-switch among Netflix animated shows in as many years, following the He-Man show that wasn't about He-Man. At this rate, I half-expect the upcoming Tomb Raider cartoon to kill off Lara Croft in the first episode.

I suppose the fact that I find Ramona, and the actress who plays her, considerably more interesting/appealing than Scott, and the actor who plays him, both in the movie and the series, mitigates any concerns for me regarding any perceived "overcorrection". Also, Scott, particularly as played in the movie, is kind of a self-centered asshole at times, so centering a considerably longer (than the film) series around him could prove a bit taxing, if played sincerely, IMO.
