All right, I'm done with the original run of the series, and what an underwhelming ending it was! They didn't intend for it to be the end of the series, but still. The others ended on a much more spectacular and engaging note by comparison.
I still like Piz. Maybe it's just because I got sick of Logan and Veronica's relationship, but I thought he and Veronica made a cute couple.

It's still not clear if the writers intended for the S3 finale to feel (at least in part) like a series finale. The series had clung on for dear life after its first two seasons, and it's not like the ratings had shown any major improvement. Plus, several of the actors could tell that the series' days were numbered, which is why they had the foresight to book new gigs for the 2007-08 season.
Still, Rob Thomas wanted the S3 finale to feel ambiguous, and he got his wish. I've since heard multiple critics defend that finale as a perfect ending, but given how little buildup there was to it in the often fragmented third season, it just fell kinda flat for me.

Season Four premieres July 26th!
This is especially good news because iZombie ends on July 25th, and it will be impossible for me to go more than a single day without a Rob Thomas show on the air.

Yep, the movie was good.
Thank you for the welcome. I was a member with the old site. I tried logging in and could not, so I had to make a new username. So many changes! I miss the old Buffy forum with Mikejer.

Season Four has dropped a week early! It's all streaming on Hulu now.
I'll probably watch it on Sunday. (By which point the rest of the Internet will probably have finished it, but whatever.)

Watched the first four on Sunday. Real life got in the way after that, but I hope to finish within a few days, before the Internet does its spoiler thing.

Unfortunately no, and I'm not sure when I'll get to it. I just have too much other stuff to get to first.

Okay, finally finished Season Four. Too late to cheer/kvetch about it with the rest of the Internet, but whatevs. (Very minor spoilers ahead.)
First, the good stuff: The cast remains terrific. Bell and Colantoni have indelible chemistry, and it shines through even more poignantly in Season Four, now that Keith is no longer at his prime. The rest of the actors do great work, too, both major returning players and the newcomers. (There are also some surprise cameos, thankfully woven into the story a bit better than in the movie.) I just wish Tina Majorino had put in an appearance - Neptune's not the same without a Mac Attack.
The writing remains sharp, and the mystery features some nice, non-heavy-handed commentary about the city's endless income inequality problem. Veronica herself is given a good arc - she's grown up, but still can't leave her detective days behind. And her sleuthing skills are still a joy to watch.
Now the bad stuff: Because the show has moved to Hulu, it almost inevitably suffers from the issues that plague the bulk of streaming shows. Having one mystery unfold over eight episodes - with no standalone mysteries to punctuate the story - really made the season drag at times. This was not helped by a couple of ill-advised side threads, like the two cartel thugs who seem ripped straight out of a second-rate Better Call Saul episode.
And the finale does... not end well. It's not just that the killer reveal is a letdown (though it is). But the final 15 minutes of the season reflect some of the laziest writing I've ever seen from this show. The series goes for broke on a cheap, manipulative ending that seems only designed to anger the fans. (Evidence suggests it succeeded.)
S4 is entertaining at times, and certainly better than S3, but it's still a far cry from the classic days of VM. Despite my love for the show (and the movie, and the novels) and its willingness to endure after 15 years, it might be time to close up shop.
