For my money the best ever first season of a show is still Homeland. Unfortunately for the show, a lot of that reason is because it was built very specifically for one season.
I don't even know if Legion is the best show I'm watching right now. There are many shows competing for that title, including The Americans, a show I really like the direction they are going this year. I was a slight naysayer last year after things just got too dour for my liking, the difference this year is by focussing on the food crisis in Russia, something more of a wider issue that has real connections to history, there's just an ever so slight change in perspective that I think the show is really using to its advantage.
Another show that looks extremely confident in what it's doing is American Crime, a show I'm picking up this year (and I really still intend to go back and watch last season.) The show hasn't really kicked into gear yet, but there's a sense of confidence to it and just clever use of subtexts and parallelism that indicates to me a show that is in very good hands and knows what it's doing.
The best storyline that is ongoing right now is the story of Celeste on Big Little Lies, though the other parts of the show don't always live up to that.

Ah, more American Crime love! The third season has had a slow start, but that's nothing new for the show. It looks to be the series' most nuanced and complex season yet.
I'm basking in the quiet before the storm. Next month marks the return of (deep breath) Fargo, Better Call Saul, The Leftovers, iZombie, Angie Tribeca, and of course, Mystery Science Theater 3000. Oh, and Mary Kills People will finally premiere in America.
I imagine you'll be quite busy, Scott. (Especially since you'll also be watching S2 of The West Wing! Right?)

There's some quality television right there. I'm watching Better Call Saul and MST 3,000. I'm in no rush to watch iZombie live, because every CW show appears on Netflix 8 days after the season ends.

A friend was asking me if Legion would be on Netflix. Do FX shows end up on there?

The S3 premiere has already aired as a sneak preview. It seems like they'll be spoofing "serial killer" dramas this season. I'm all in.
I can't speak for Netflix Canada. Netflix USA has some FX shows (ACS, AHS, Always Sunny), but not others (Fargo is only on Hulu, for example).

I can speak for Netflix Canada and no, FX shows pretty much never end up there as far as I can recall. I think it had some much older ones like The Shield on there for a while but in terms of current shows I don't think it's ever really been the case.

I wouldn't count on it, considering Legion's on Hulu. The good news is, Hulu's much better than Netflix right now!

Old shows are very much on the backburner right now. I promise I'll get around to it when TV slows down - likely when The Leftovers and Fargo and Better Call Saul seasons end. At least I hope TV will slow down then

Well, just don't be surprised if I spend the next few months pestering you about it.
(Don't look at me like that - I haven't forgotten that whole Leftovers S2 situation.)

Even though the finale was a bit more conventional than Chapter 7 (how could it not be?), I was still very satisfied with Legion's season ender. And it's amazing that they took this long to use some Pink Floyd, given how much of the sound design of the show seems influenced by them.
Yeah, this is far and away my favourite "superhero" property in many, many years. It's poignant, visually-ambitious, and often really funny. And I think Edna Mode would approve of the show as well: NO CAPES!
I'll probably make a thread for it whenever Season 2 premieres next year, with ten episodes!

I didn't love Legion overall, but at its best (the pilot, Episode 7), it was pretty spectacular. I do wish the characters were more interesting (granted, I never found the comic-book version of Legion all that interesting, but we're in three dimensions now), though the cast was quite strong.
The finale wrapped up the story pretty well, and featured some very well-directed action. (And we got to hear Jemaine Clement sing! I was waiting for that.) I'm onboard for Season Two.

I know nothing about that show, Q. But I'm often out-of-the-loop on newer series. That said, if Legion sticks the landing on Wednesday, I'm prepared to say that this may be my favourite first season of any drama series, ever. Keeping in mind, of course, that many of the greatest series didn't knock it out-of-the-park in their first year. Well, that was pretty great! It wasn't one of the best episodes of the season, but it was a good episode nonetheless. I like how it subverted the typical superhero tv show finale, and instead was thoughtful.

It wasn't one of the best episodes of the season, but it was a good episode nonetheless. I like how it took its time, but the pacing did drag at points. An 8.5 finale that only feels a tad disappointing because for me, the rest of the season was 9/10 material.

I think the cast is really good, though obviously the nature of the Season 1 arc, which plays around with the idea of whether the supporting characters actually exist, was always going to put a ceiling on how much dimension the characters would be granted. I obviously expect them to be fleshed out more in Season 2.
Regardless, I love love love this show, which is quite the thing, given how relatively lukewarm I am on most of the X-Men franchise. It's a 9.5-out-of-10 for me.

I'd give Season One an 8/10 overall. But that's still a pretty solid grade.
I expect that only Bosquiara will get this reference, but the only other comic book-based TV series I can really compare to Legion is The Maxx. But Legion may be the more impressive feat, simply because it was visually dazzling in a live-action format. Plus, it's already got a much longer running time than The Maxx.
(Oh, and speaking of brief running times... the final season of Review was three episodes long. I'm not pleased.)
