guttersnipe:
Fantastic; it also had its (worldwide?) theatrical debut in New York. And this brand-new trailer makes me wanna revisit it right now (using a mirror of the shot of Roman falling to shadow Dorota breaking the glass is genius, as is the handclasp to Elzbieta smoking).

So I very recently went on a two-week trip to Egypt and Israel, and as it turned out, when I realised I couldn't get a direct flight from Tel Aviv to London but they did have regular flights to Warsaw, I decided to make a day of it and see what I could of the Polish capital before heading home. Naturally my priority was in tracking down the Inflancka flats where Dekalog was largely shot: A frozen pond (lopsidedly shot). It was -7 when I left my hotel and never really got much warmer. Disappointingly, the locals had no idea what I was talking about when I referred to Dekalog. My attempt to recreate the shot from "I" before we meet Pawel. Is this where Tomek runs in a circle with the milkcart? At the very close-by Cmentarz Powazkowski; the stone is from me (Kieslowski wasn't Jewish but it felt apt).

So this week five years, two jobs and one MikeJer ago, I reviewed a little television series called Dekalog, and it remains one of my proudest achievements. I'm soon going to treat myself to a celebratory re-viewing, and I can't help but wonder if I'll find new elements with which to compare and constrast against my earlier writings. I certainly feel like I can expect a certain fresh poignancy having since visited the fair city of Warsaw and indeed Kieslowski's final resting place.

Holy crap that was five years ago...we're getting old
