It is a bit more exploratory than the rest of the game, I'll admit. Once you get back to the higher levels it goes back more to how it was.

Good news, everyone! I'm proud to announce that after over a year of work (mostly by people who aren't me, but I HELPED), Make a Good Mega Man Level Contest 2 is finally out!For the uninitiated, the original MAGMML was a Mega Man level design contest, using a custom engine and assets from the NES games. This is like that, except with a better engine, and also, 80 full-length entries. Oh, and Wily stages, and several postgame levels. Ha ha ha. It really is worth checking out if you're a fan of Mega Man or old-school platformers in general; there's no lives, and the weapon set has gotten a huge buff. (Yes, even Sakugarne.) Be aware that probably one third of the submitted levels are garbage, so maybe for your sanity avoid Tier 2. (Actually, no, go into Yggdrasil for the sheer WTF factor.) Alternately, you could just play my level, which ranked fifteenth, and is, um, long. (It's good though!) If you don't have time for a full game, you can always just play the tier 10 levels, which in concert are the most fun I've had playing a fangame ever.

For reference, I spent four hours playing through the bad levels. It's fun!

After playing so many (good and bad) Super Mario Maker levels, I find myself scrutinizing even the official Nintendo-produced levels more than I used to.

Anyone here played Caves of Qud? It looks pretty interesting.
Also, I'm finally playing Undertale, about an eternity after everyone who isn't living under a rock has played it. So far, it's kind of... I don't know, it's fine, but with all the random encounters and turn-based battles, it's really going to have to grip me to get me to play it multiple times. RPG-style battle mechanics usually bore me quickly. Weirdly, I didn't mind them so much as a kid, but I lost my patience as I got older. You'd think that would be the opposite?

Multiple people have said my Mario Maker "Shells" level plays like Undertale.

I wasn't certain about it at first, but I'm really liking Undertale. I'm playing it through a second time for the pacifist ending, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to kill everyone and do a genocide run... if there's anything about this game that lives up to the hype, it's that the characters are very well developed for the game being so short, and the way the game is written and designed really makes you feel some responsibility for their fates. I usually wouldn't care, but the idea of murdering them all just for funsies doesn't sound appealing.

Has anyone else here played Undertale, or hasn't played it but doesn't care about reading spoilers? I'm thinking about giving it its own thread once I'm done with it, but there's not much point if no one's interested.
There's some really juicy stuff to talk about even if you've never played it... the way this game interacts with the player really brings it to life like nothing else I've ever seen. Like, I think I'm going to push through and do a "genocide" run in order to get the complete story despite my reservations, but the fact that I had so much hesitance speaks to how well this game accomplishes what it sets out to do.

I'd love to read your thoughts on Undertale, which is a game I have yet to play but already know literally everything about.

Jesus Christ. I give up.
I got to the final boss of the genocide run of Undertale, and I just can't go through with actually completing it. Ive already spent hours on it, and I'd have to spend even more hours practicing while watching him go through his gut-wrenching speech. It's uncanny just how real this game feels at times, it's like one of those haunted game cartridges from a creepypasta.

Anyone played LISA: The Painful RPG? I keep seeing it be recommended for people who liked Undertale. Because Undertale wasn't painful enough.

I'm sure you've all noticed that five-page essay I wrote on Undertale, but it's full of spoilers, so to conclude my thoughts on this thread, I'll post my spoiler-free review:
Undertale is great and you should all play it.

Do we need a new thread for the new year? I don't think so, since this one never got too deep. Anyway, over the break here a friend got me hooked on A Link to the Past Randomizer where I so far on my independent runs have gotten silver arrows out of the gate both times, didn't get the cape or the Book of Mudora until the final dungeon in the first run-through, and had to navigate Agahnim's Tower blind because 1) no lantern yet and 2) I knew that it would unlock the path to the bow and you ain't getting very far without that. Currently on the hunt for lantern / fire rod, or hookshot. Among other notes from the current run: Tempered Sword with only one dungeon down, bought the moon pearl from King Zora, got the Hammer in Link's House (which frees one up to go to the Dark World early and flail about helplessly). I like the challenges of on-the-fly routing, so the game ends up being a lot of fun for me.

Well, I guess that makes it more like the sequel, A Link Between Worlds, in allowing you to tackle dungeons in a random order. I wish they'd make ALBW available on the Wii-U or Switch e-Shop.
