So, I finally convinced someone to watch Buffy. I told him about some things about Buffy and he seemed pretty open about it and said he was willing to try. Also, I told him it was from Joss and he told me he had seen Firefly and liked it a lot.
So, I will be watching Buffy with my cousin (she´s seeing it for the second time) and her boyfriend (he´s the Buffy newbie).
He also told me he´s used to watch pretty bad episodes and he gave the examples of X Files, saying the show has some pretty weak episodes. Knowing he is used to "cheesier" things, my question is: do I show him episodes like "Teacher´s Pet", "I Robot you Jane", "Superstar" although I think I can skip "Where the Wild Things are".

Given the really really bad episodes are mostly infrequent and he seems to be able to handle those OK I don't think there will be much of a problem. And sometimes you need to see the crap to make the good stand out more.

If they're used to it, then it shouldn't be that big a deal. It's kind of a fun cheese.

I'd say just tell him to muscle through Season 1.
The only episode I usually skip with new people is "Go Fish", not because it's the absolute worst episode in the series, but because of its place in the season and how it disrupts the storyline in a detrimental way.

It´s not a bad idea. I usually watch it because I find it funny and it´s a bit of a calm before the storm. But if we think about it, it doesn´t bring anything to the table and yes, it is misplaced in the season.

I mean, watching bad genre fare is always more fun when you can snark with your friends.

I mean, watching bad genre fare is always more fun when you can snark with your friends. This is totally true. I watched Buffy for the first time with my sister. We laughed so hard when the praying mantis tries to mate with Xander. Also: somehow you ended up being special on the old forum.

Q is special everywhere she goes. Buffyholic, just tell the newbie that the first season is a much broader, more conventional version of what it eventually became, and that the critical acclaim mostly developed in the second season (particularly the midway point) and beyond.

I know this is a bit off topic but consistent with this thread, so bear with me.
There´s a podcast about Buffy called Tiny Fences with two girls hosting it. One has seen the show more than once and the other is seeing it for the very first time. They just finished season 5. Oh and it´s completely spoiler free. She has no idea of what´s gonna happen and even has predictions only based from the episode´s title. So funny!
It got me thinking, "What will my friend think about the show?". Because there are some stuff that only gets better with multiple viewings.
Take Restless for example. The first time I watched it, I didn´t like it because I didn´t get it. The second time, I thought it was interesting but still, didn´t like it. I had to finish the season and then rewatching it to start to really love the episode and understand its foreshadowing.
