It's been an entire year of waiting, but Season Three has arrived!
I enjoyed the premiere overall, but the one thing that stuck out to me was the reference to Equatorial Kundu. I... was not expecting a West Wing in-joke on iZombie.

I'm sure it's a prelude to having an episode where Liv solves the assassination of a Qumari official by eating his brain.

I´ve read some good stuff about the show but I don´t know, I´m a bit hesitant. The trailer doesn´t appeal to me much and I stumbled upon two episodes and found it goofy. But hey, I was also watching it out of context.
I´m gonna give it a try but I have very low expectations.

Well, the show is from the same people behind Veronica Mars, and shares some similarities with that series (the main character is not far off from Veronica, except, y'know, undead). So hey, you may wind up enjoying it.
It's also gotten better and better with time. I'm loving Season Three so far.

I've watched to first two episodes of season three, and it's been pretty good, but I'm worried about how well the whole race-war thing is gonna turn out. Like, zombie-ism in this show isn't really a race or a species, it's more like a communicable disease. It's in theory completely curable while simultaneously placing an undue burden on the rest of the population, so it doesn't make much sense for zombies to resist the development or administration of a cure or for normal humans to accept having to supply the zombies with brains. It would make a lot more sense for this storyline to be an analogue to the AIDS epidemic or something, treating zombies like a "race" to the extent that people who became zombies only a couple years ago don't consider themselves "human" anymore is kind of weird.

Is this show as comedically broad as the ads make it out to be? Because I was under the impression it was a mix of comedy and drama, but the ads make it look like full-blown farce.

On the one hand, I don't see this show going the zombie-war route. The show deviates from traditional undead lore at virtually every opportunity. Still, I do want to see them delve a bit deeper into the question of zombie "humanity" - the fact alone that eating brains can alter their personality is ripe for discussion. Is this show as comedically broad as the ads make it out to be? Because I was under the impression it was a mix of comedy and drama, but the ads make it look like full-blown farce. The promos focus on the more lighthearted moments in each episode, the better to grab viewers' attention. Though there's plenty of comedy in the dialogue (and hand-drawn intertitles), the show definitely falls on the dramatic side.

iZombie is currently on the bubble, and I'm not yet sure if it will get a fourth season. But given that the CW has just cancelled Frequency and No Tomorrow, I'd say its chances of renewal have improved.
If it does get to Season Four, that will make it Rob Thomas' longest-running show ever! (90210 doesn't count.)

Why do you know the lyrics to "Smooth," the Grammy-winning 1999 crossover Latin pop hit by Carlos Santana?

I don't. But some Sherlockian reasoning - and a quick Google search - helped me figure out the subtext of your comment.
(And now that you've named the song, so can everyone else!)

Ding! iZombie was just renewed for Season Four!
(And this time, hopefully, we won't get a yearlong break in between.)

You've really never heard "Smooth," the Grammy-winning 1999 crossover Latin pop hit by Carlos Santana featuring Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20?? Inconceivable. But. Forgivable. Rest assured, Jeremy, that in spite of your cultural illiteracy you remain, as always, my reason for reason, the step in my groove. Next thing you'll tell me you've never heard "Kiss from a Rose."

A couple of lyrics from "Kiss From a Rose" were briefly used in last year's middling animated film Sing. (They were sung by an anthropomorphic sheep.) So technically, I've heard it.
