So, what, Mr. Garrison (the Trump surrogate) is going to drop completely out of sight for an entire season? I think the problem with trying to satirize Trump is it's difficult to write anything more ridiculous or clueless than what typically comes out of his mouth.
Flamepillar, I believe the arc was that the boys were feeling (wrongly) that the girls had all the control, and were essentially taking over the world, and Hillary Clinton's expected election would play into that. And then the election happened, and it was like, "Nope, rich old white dude again in office, same as it ever was." It just completely undercut where they were heading.

That seems to be a risk that South Park takes generally. Writing shows on the fly and trying to keep up with current events means there's bound to be some flubs in the writing process, especially now that the show is dealing with long-term arcs. They correctly predicted the '08 and '12 elections, but (like several other shows that tried to tie in with current events last season) were caught off-guard by 2016.
There's a funny story about how South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone developed their short-lived White House sitcom That's My Bush! They came up with the idea during the 2000 election cycle, and decided to start planning a show about whichever candidate (Bush or Gore) won the presidency. Unfortunately, production of the series had to be postponed for a while because the election was the closest in US history, and it took over a month before Bush was officially declared the winner - much to the surprise of Parker and Stone, who had already begun drafting a Gore-based show and were forced to change their plans.
(That's My Bush! was cancelled after one season, BTW.)

At any rate, I think they should just tell the stories they want to tell with the kids (and Randy, and whoever else), and just let the current political events hover off in the distance. Don't make them the emphasis, but they can still inform whatever small-scale story they're trying to tell, to some degree. I'll be curious to see if they'll be able to lay off the "condemning both sides" nonsense w/r/t the past few days' events in Virginia.

That's one of the main criticisms of South Park that I hear often: they always condemn both sides, even if one side is clearly in the right. Therefore, the show has no conviction or a point to make. I hope they do as you propose and don't do that.

Though you're correct that the show does do that sometimes (straining to spread the criticism to both sides of an issue), on this particular occasion, I was speaking to Trump trying to put equal blame on white supremacists and those protesting their rally. I don't think there's any way Parker and Stone would take that position, though I do wonder if, by the time the show goes to air, they'll say anything about it at all.

I don't think they will, given that the Season 21 premiere is still a month away - which is about three years in South Park time. For better or worse, the show tries to be as up-to-the-minute as possible. (It would also be especially difficult to condemn both sides now that Trump has specifically criticized the white supremacists.)

I am, however, a legitimate fan of the other animated show I plan to write about. The Nutshack. Hoo-ah! Jay's from the West, Jer's from the NY! Antonio the guttersnipe so red-eyed! Tito Mike-- MikeJer, buddy! Made the site, and loves the Buffy. Jer runs the site now-- he's still learnin' Trotskyite Noah Burns, still a-burnin' Quiara's far-a out and bizarre-a All the guys want Jer'my to mar her But he just says "sayonara" (I spent minutes of my life writing this. Minutes!)

There appear to be further developments with regards to this issue. So many of those torch-bearers are (apparently) just a bunch of nice, statue-loving Americans.

Well, I feel confident in saying that no one here hates those neo-Nazi lowlifes more than I do. But I'm sure that Trump will put out a counter-counter-counter-statement in the next day or so.
(Or maybe he'll just clam up, which may actually be the better option at this point.)

He also reminded everyone that he owns a winery there.

So... you're not doing a piece on the 20th anniversary of Van-Pires?
