How would you say it stacks up against Avatar? I'd say the latter is the better series, but there's really no single half-hour of Avatar that measures up to "Not What He Seems." It's hard to compare the two since they're so different, but I'd still put Avatar ahead by a bit. Gravity Falls stops just short of developing its ancillary characters as much as it could have. I mentioned Wendy already, but I think there was some potential for Pacifica to be developed a bit more, too. There were some interesting themes running through there that were mostly dropped outside of "The Golf War" and "NorthWest Mansion Mystery."

Gravity Falls also develops its characters in a pretty breezy way. Grunkle Stan is mostly treated as a joke for much of the show's run, as is Soos. But the series is still able to turn on a dime and give them sympathetic and serious moments when the need arises.
There's probably enough character and thematic development to make this show a good fit for the CT treatment. (We do need to get cartoons on this site at some point.)

Speaking of Stan and Soos, Alex Hirsch is a freaking voice-acting superstar. I mean, besides running the show and co-writing most of the episodes, he voices Stan, Soos, Bill Cipher, Old Man McGuckett, and an array of minor roles, and does them all so well I never would have guessed it was the same person. He must be more into writing than acting, because if it's not from lack of time I don't see how he doesn't have a much larger voice resume. Also, given that he was Cave Johnson in Portal 2, I loved that in Gravity Falls, J.K. Simmons plays a different far-too-cavalier mad scientist who works with portals. This is like that time when Saul Rubinek played reclusive hackers named Arthur in both Warehouse 13 and Person of Interest.

Hirsch does have a pretty incredible vocal range. But most of his voice roles seem to be limited to Disney Channel shows, which I'm guessing is a contractual thing. In any case, it's amazing to see one guy involved in so many aspects of a single animated series, particularly one who wasn't all that well-known before GF debuted.
And now he's writing the animated Spider-Man film alongside Lego Movie scribes Phil Lord and Chris Miller! And here we thought Hollywood had run out of ideas for Spider-Man reboots.

BTW, I think Gravity Falls has the best "show within a show" gags I've seen in an animated series. Ducktective always made me laugh.
Also, do you have any idea where to watch the miniseries?

You can find all the miniseries shorts on YouTube. Some of them are just fun little treats, but others actually feature some clever foreshadowing for later episodes.

So apparently, the 21-minute Frozen cartoon that's shown in theaters with Coco was originally meant to be a Christmas TV special. But Disney changed their minds and decided to make it a theatrical "short film" instead.
Bad move, Dis.

Yeah, I also thought they were keeping Disney Animation Studios and Pixar separate.

After the reaction here, I think they'll go back to keeping the two separate. And hopefully Pixar will go back to producing more gems like Lou.
Incidentally, I find it amusing how much Frozen merchandising has sprung up in the wake of the new Olaf cartoon. I expect it's a warm-up for Frozen 2. Be prepared...

The whole Frozen thing is barely on my radar. I means, it's cool that you and others love it, but it didn't register much with me at all. Felt like middle-of-the-road Disney, at best. 3-out-of-5-Stars, says I.
And I may or may not check out Coco. But I am seeing Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri tomorrow.

Funnily enough, I almost wound up seeing Lady Bird last week. And almost saw Three Billboards, too. But I ended up picking Coco over either of them.
I'll cure my Disney fixation. Eventually.

Heh. I hope they keep the songs - I'd love to hear Chiwetel Ejiofor give it a try.
