Ok, we're all sad that Mike's Buffy reviews are gone, but Jeremy's announcement was some juicy stuff:
Hot damn! Anybody wanna take a guess there?
My first thought was My So-Called Life (given Jeremy's well-established like for the show), but I'm not sure it's really "connected to the Buffy brand" in any meaningful way. Perhaps we finally getting firefly reviews?

Well, Joss pitched Buffy as "My So-Called Life meets The X-Files," so there's definitely an important connection. So it might be the show I'm referring to.
Or it might not.

Wow, did not see that coming. And whilst I'm sad, I'm actually rather impressed that Mike can compartmentalise his life to such an extent that he could voluntarily leave something so momentous behind. Speaking as someone who drags around a hell of a lot of baggage, I admire someone who can declare certain chapters of their life closed; it reminds me somewhat of Michael Landy's Break Down, an artwork created from the artist's decision to destroy all of his possessions and present the smashed and shredded articles in a variety of identical trays. Only less, y'know, extreme. All the best, Mike. (There's a part of me that worries newbies about explaining the layout; ie why is Angel covered (but not fully) when Buffy isn't, but I guess we'll come to that hurdle as and when.)
As for the new show, I got nothin', but part of me begs for an animated show. Doesn't even matter what it is, just an animated show.

There's always just "take a look at this Wayback Machine link" so I don't think that'll be too difficult. Unless Mike would really not prefer we do that for some reason. Can't say I understand why this is happening, but I'm sure Mike has his reasons. Thanks for the memories, Mike, your reviews have been foundational to my appreciation of television.

I don't think Mike wants me to go into detail, but if you've read his reviews long enough, you know that he poured a ton of effort and passion into them. I don't know if he'd ever be able to fully leave them behind. As a fellow reviewer, I'm saddened by his decision, but I can respect it. As for the new show, I got nothin', but part of me begs for an animated show. Doesn't even matter what it is, just an animated show. I'd say there's a very good chance of getting an animated show reviewed on CT someday. I enjoy animation a great deal more than Mike does, and there are plenty of quality shows in the medium (both Western and anime). We'll have to see...

Avatar's the obvious choice, but it would still be awesome.

I know what's happening ! ! ! Anyway, I would imagine that I end up reviewing some anime at some point although there is a bit of a crunch I am in with regard to being in a PhD program currently. I think that the most likely scenario is that I review a movie sometime within the next year or so which I guarantee no one will ever successfully guess at.

We're barely 24 hours from the announcement!!!
Jeremy mentioned several of his favorite shows by decade on Twitter, and MSCL is among them, which now makes me wonder whether that was a mislead. Hmmmmmmmm. He also did do some capsule reviews of ATLA, so that's an option as well...

I'm a bit surprised that no one has guessed it yet. I did drop a pretty obvious clue a few months ago.
But yes, all will be revealed tomorrow.

To be fair, 99% of your posts reference other television programs. I just hope it's something I won't mind upending what's left of my summer break to watch in its entirety.

Given what I know about your TV tastes, I can say with some confidence that you won't mind.
One last hint: I can describe this show in such a way that makes it sound eerily similar to another show that's reviewed on CT - even though the two shows are essentially very different. And if that doesn't leave you hopelessly confused, nothing will.

Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated? Maybe that's a reach, but we've compared it to Twin Peaks before.

You know, I'm actually really surprised that it isn't MSCL. You've constantly made comments saying you wish someone would cover Kolchak, a show that's a notable influence on several shows reviewed on CT, but I don't think you'd be encouraging other people to review a show you were going to do yourself. I doubt I'll guess it, just because you know a lot more about television than me, and there are a lot of candidates... but some left-field picks:
Action? You've made several comments to the extent of "poor Jay Mohr," and the show does have a recurring Buffy actor as a lead.
Deadwood? You're a fan of that. Zack Whedon wrote for it, I think.
The Honeymooners? You namedropped it on Twitter, and have rightly described it as one of the best TV shows of the era, and it's rather short. And, um, the Buffy opening credits have a moon in them.
Parenthood? The 1990 one, which has an episode penned by Joss Whedon called "The Plague," which is like, super existential. I think. And I think you mentioned watching it recently, or maybe that's the shitty one.

Wait, no, I've got it. The show you're comparing it to is Dekalog.
The Dekalog is more or less an anthology series consisting of morality plays loosely based on the Bible, a foundational work of Western literature, adapting its morals and conundra into a modern-day context. There's another great, underrated show that takes a similar approach, presenting a story based on a work of great literature every week and applying its morals to life circa the 1990s... but it's an episodic slice-of-life dramedy, with Amy Acker!
...why do I get the feeling you're not going to be posting Wishbone reviews?

I'm going with Deadwood, My So-Called Life, or Wonderfalls. Not sure how they're related to Buffy, but I'm sure they all are somehow in a way only Jeremy would know (no offense meant).
